Dog parks offer a fantastic space for your furry friend to run freely, socialise and burn off energy in a safe, enclosed environment. They provide not only physical exercise but also mental stimulation and valuable social interactions with both dogs and people. For owners, dog parks can foster a sense of community, offering a chance to connect with fellow dog lovers and learn from more experienced pet owners. Is My Dog Ready for the Dog Park? Before heading to the dog park, consider whether your dog is truly ready for this social setting. Your pup should be comfortable meeting other dogs (including overly excited ones) and new people without displaying aggressive behaviours. Here are a few key things to check before your visit: Your dog should have solid recall and be able to follow basic cues even with distractions. Avoid dog parks if your dog is recovering from an injury or illness, or if they are a female in heat. Puppies should be fully vaccinated before their first visit. Keep in mind that dog parks include dogs of all ages and sizes, and some adult dogs may not tolerate puppies well. A single negative experience can impact a puppy's confidence for life. A great way to introduce your dog to the park is to observe from the outside first. Let your dog interact through the fence, watch how the dogs inside behave, and ensure their owners are actively supervising. This helps set your dog up for a positive experience. 8 | my pet magazine uFEATURED ARTICLE DOG PARKS A Guide to Fun , Safety & Etiquee A Guide to Fun , Safety & Etiquee
